Hello everyone,
With so little time remaining in 2018, I have decided to write a series of posts about my year in reading! I never expected to read and review so many books this year, but I have ended up taking in a huge range of plot devices, writing styles, and interesting characters.
And characters is where I am going to begin by 2018 round-up. I love a good character-driven book, particularly when they are believable and I can develop a positive connection with them as they carry the plot forward. For me, if the main characters are likeable, then it is always a good start if I am going to like the book.
So here are my top five character-driven books I read in 2018!
Turtles All The Way Down by John Green
This was a truly incredible book, and the main character Aza was so likeable and well drawn that she helped make the story as powerful and emotional as it was.
The House We Grew Up In by Lisa Jewell
The characters in this book are some of the most unusual and eccentric that I have ever come across. Beneath all of that were some serious underlying messages, but it made the story all the more entertaining.
This book is a very heart-warming YA adventure, and Flora is an endearing character as she keeps going with short-term memory. It is impossible not to like her.
The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton
This is undoubtedly one of the most memorable books I have read in 2018, and although the writing style is profound, it is the compelling characters that act as the driving force behind it.
There are two main characters in this book, and both of them are wonderfully developed, unique and thought-provoking. I don’t think I will ever come across another character quite like Vivian!
