Hello everyone,
December would not be complete without doing the the Naughty or Nice tag, which was created by the wonderful, award-winning blogger that is Jenniely.
In 2018 I fell firmly into the ‘Nice’ category with a score of 5/20. Let’s see if I have remained there this year, or allowed my standards to slip…!
1. Received an ARC and not reviewed it
I review every (fictional) book that I read, so even if I did regularly receive ARCs, I would get to it eventually!
2. Have less than 60% feedback rating on Netgalley
This one does not apply to me because I do not use NetGalley.
3. Rated a book on Goodreads and promised a full review was to come on your blog (and never did)
Last year I failed at this, but happily in 2019 I was always true to my word! In any case, I usually write my reviews on Goodreads first and then post them on my blog after adding a few extra thoughts.
4. Folded down the page of a book
No I never do this. 🙂
5. Accidentally spilled on a book ✅
I am pretty sure that I spilled some water or maybe some tea on at least one book this year!
6. DNF a book this year
I am the kind of person that hardly ever DNF’s a book, in the hope that it will get better and I would end up enjoying it. There are definitely one or two books in 2019 which I regretted not casting aside. Perhaps I need to be more ruthless in future!
7. Bought a book purely because it was pretty with no intention of reading it
When I buy a book I always intend to read it, so no.
8. Read whilst you were meant to be doing something else (like homework) ✅
The number of nights in which I stayed awake with a book, when I had work the following day…no wonder I often feel tired!
9. Skim read a book ✅
I usually like to take in each and every word, but there are some books that you just do not enjoy enough to do this. So yes, I skim read some passages to help get them over with.
10. Completely missed your Goodreads goal
I set myself a target of 50 books, and I managed to reach that in October. I have had less time to read this year than last, so I’m really happy with that. Currently on book 56.
11. Borrowed a book and not returned it ✅
I always return books eventually, but this year I have had to pay two library fines, so I think I might be on the naughty list for this one.
12. Broke a book buying ban
I am on a book buying ban at the moment, but I haven’t broken it yet!
13. Started a review, left it for ages then forgot what the book was about ✅
I have fallen into a habit now of waiting a week or sometimes more before I write a review, and sometimes that has come back to haunt me.
I mostly remember what the book was about, there have just been some occasions where it has left me unable to discuss all the points I would have done in my review had I written it straight away.
14. Wrote in a book you were reading
Not this year! I don’t like writing in books, and annotating slows me down anyway.
15. Finished a book and not added it to your Goodreads
No, I update my Goodreads regularly and make sure I remember to add each book.
16. Borrowed a book and not returned it to a friend
I did borrow a book from a work colleague this year, but I returned it eventually 🙂
17. Dodged someone asking if they can borrow a book
Nobody has asked me if they could borrow one of my books, so no.
18. Broke the spine of someone else’s book
No! I wouldn’t forgive myself if I did that.
19. Took the jacket off a book to protect it and ended up making it more damaged
I often remove the jacket from a book, but I haven’t damaged any of them afterwards!
20. Sat on a book accidentally ✅
Yes, I think I have! But no lasting damage…;)
FINAL SCORE: 6/20
Well, it looks like I am still in the nice category, but I sinned a tiny bit more this year! Still, I am happy with this score.
I Tag
Anyone who wants to have a go at the tag! I love reading these posts, so am looking forward to more during December.
