Hello everyone,
Welcome to the first of my posts that look back on all the books I have read in 2019!
I am beginning with the best covers. Is it me, or are book covers just becoming more and more beautiful? Here are my favourite ones out of all the books I have read this year, and interestingly they are all set in historical time periods:

The Doll Factory by Elizabeth Macneal
The setting of this book is so brilliantly captured in Elizabeth Macneal’s writing, and the cover reflects that perfectly by encapsulating all the various aspects of Victorian London within a bell jar. And the effect is very pretty.

Winter Of The Witch by Katherine Arden
I love the way that the trees snake and wind themselves along the sides of this cover, enclosing the title. The colours reflect the darkness and the light, and the worlds that Vasya explores in this wonderfully written story, inspired by Russian folklore.

The Familiars by Stacey Halls
This one is my personal favourite. Everything about this cover is just glorious perfection. It is a vibrant and colourful piece of fine art, where the noose in the middle highlights the sinister edge of the witch trials depicted in the book. I am delighted to own a signed copy!

The Muse by Jessie Burton
This one was created by the same people who designed the cover of The Familiars, so it’s hardly surprising that it is beautiful, too! Once again, it is impeccably detailed with the serpents and plant-emitting shotguns, all on a background of midnight blue.

The Ten Thousand Doors Of January by Alix E. Harrow
This was a cover that immediately grabbed my attention, and the story it contains is not so bad either! With colourful flowers around the outside and several font types used in the title, it certainly catches the eye.
