Top Five Powerful Books I Read In 2019

Hello everyone,

It is time for another top five list, looking back at the best and most memorable books I have read in 2019!

This post is about the most powerful books I have read. What has made them so powerful is the weight of the issues they have explored, and the events that have been portrayed.

These things were sometimes complimented by a profound writing style that made me feel emotionally connected to the book, making them all the more effective.

So here are the most powerful books I read in 2019. I shall not forget them in a hurry!

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

This is one of the most powerful books I have ever read, and one that I would recommend to anyone and everyone. The issues it explores provoked some very strong feelings from me while I was reading, and the characters carry the story brilliantly.

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

Many readers have been moved to tears by this book, and I am not surprised. Even with a little dose of humour, it is extremely poignant with a protagonist who is unable to face his very natural fears. The quality of the storytelling helped it leave even more of an impact.

After The End by Clare Mackintosh

This is another book that deals with a cancer storyline, and Clare Mackintosh draws on her own experiences to deliver a raw and profoundly compelling novel. You cannot fail to develop an emotional connection with it.

VOX by Christina Dalcher

I did not like this book a huge amount, but it has an exceptionally powerful concept which leads to some highly effective and frightening moments. A world where women cannot utter more than 100 words per day without being stunned by an electric charge? Very scary. The atmosphere of the book is very dark, too.

The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo

Told almost entirely in poetic verse, this book is bursting with originality. Lying within the artful format is a truly powerful story which centres on main character Xiomara, who finds her voice through writing poetry, and a wide range of themes are explored.
