The Finished Books Tag

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all keeping well at this very worrying time. At the moment, books and writing are providing a valuable sense of escape, so I am even more thankful for them as I embark on social distancing.

It is time for another tag post! Thank you very much to Danni for tagging me for this one – it looks simple but very fun. I have only connected with Danni quite recently, but she is already a good friend and has a fabulous blog, so do check it out!

Questions

1 – Do you keep a list of the books you have read?

I have a list on Goodreads of all the books I have read. This automatically updates after I have finished each one, so it acts as a helpful point of reference.

2 – If you record statistics, what statistics do you record?

When I review a book, I include the genre, the number of pages it contains, its publication date, and any relevant trigger warnings. I then round things off with a star rating.

At the end of each year I publish a blog post with statistics including the number of books read per month, the different genres I have read, and the number of buddy reads I have done.

3 – Do you give star ratings for books and if so, what do you score books out of and how do you come about this score?

Yes I do! And I also use half stars, but for time’s sake I shall not include them in this list:

1 STAR – An extremely disappointing read which lacked substance and had next to no redeeming features.
2 STAR – Either a book with multiple flaws, or one that I just could not connect with.
3 STAR – A book that I quite enjoyed, but also had a few issues with.
4 STAR – An excellent read. One that I really enjoyed except for the occasional flaw.
5 STAR – A truly exceptional book that is either magnificently written, perfectly plotted, leaves a lasting impact on me, or all of the above!

4 – Do you review books?

Yes! Any of you who regularly follow my blog know that reviews are my favourite posts to write, and what I am most well known for lol.

I aim to review every book I read, except for classics.

5 – Where do you put your finished books?

My finished books almost always end up on my shelves, but I have just about run out of space so am having to be inventive! I use the library a lot too, so I do not dislike any of the books I actually own, but if I did it would probably mean a trip to the charity shop.

6 – Do you have any other rituals for when you have finished a book?

In the past I used to write my review straight away after finishing the book, but that hardly ever happens now. My main routine now is to not start a new book until the following day. I like to fully digest a book before beginning on the next one!
