Goodreads Challenge Update – April 2020

Hello everyone,

As we are now a third of the way into the year, it is time to check in on my Goodreads challenge!

I set myself a target of 52 books for the year, which was an increase of two from 2019. This felt realistic, as it normally takes me about five days to finish a book, perhaps slightly longer for the ones that go over 400 pages.

One book a week also felt like less pressure, as my reading seemed to slow down a little towards the end of 2019 because of a higher number of work commitments.

But so far in 2020, I think I have done very well! Of course, the current lockdown situation has allowed me more time to read, although I am not reading a huge amount more than what I did before.

As I type, I have read 21 books in 2020, which according to Goodreads is four ahead of schedule. They have an average of 345 pages, and if I keep going at the same speed I should be able to beat my target and perhaps get to 60 books or more.

So far there have been two five-star reads, although there are lots more that I have rated highly, so I would say that I am really happy with most of the books I have chosen to read this year. The only sadness is that a couple of highly anticipated reads have fallen below expectations.

Here are the books I have read so far in 2020:

The best thing about my reading is just how varied it has become. I made very good progress in 2019 with reading a wider range of genres, but now I am switching genre for pretty much every book I read. It has made me enjoy reading even more, and prevented me from falling into a slump. One of my other targets for 2020 was to read more diverse books, and so far that is going reasonably well.

I am hoping that by the time I post my next Goodreads challenge update at the end of August, I will be edging quite close to my target. My TBR for the coming months is not planned out yet, but I am excited to discover some great reads!
