Top Five Memorable Endings I Read In 2020

Hello everyone,

For me, the ending is one of the most important parts of a book. It helps form my lasting impression of a book and it should fit well with everything that has happened already.

In my last post before Christmas I am looking back on five books I have read in 2020 that contained a really dramatic ending, or one that felt perfect in relation to the story and still lives in my memory with total clarity.

Here is the list!

The Corset by Laura Purcell

I had to read the ending to this book two or three times for it to sink in. It was so clever and well-done, and provided the perfect twist in the tale to finish a truly compelling story. I was a bit speechless!

The Silvered Serpents by Roshani Chokshi

Despite the beautiful writing and the absolutely adorable characters, the plot here was not especially riveting until a whole load of crazy things started happening towards the end. It gets maximum points for shock value and for a moment you wonder if you had just misread it, but everything becomes clear shortly after in a totally fascinating way.

The Devil And The Dark Water by Stuart Turton

This book is long and complex and keeps you guessing, but the ending stood out as undoubtedly my favourite part. It was brilliantly executed and made you realise just how much thought had gone into the entire story. The last few chapters contain lots of surprises and show the protagonists in the best possible light, acting as the perfect way to round off an enthralling book.

The Travelling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa

The final pages of this book are so emotional that I had tears in my eyes. They were profoundly moving and for that reason this story – which was already very unique – became unforgettable. It was so sad, but wonderfully written.

Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

This was another emotional ending. I loved the entire book so much that I was unbelievably invested by the time I reached the last page, and there were even more surprises to be found. It took me a few hours to recover from it!
