Last 10 Books Tag

Hello everyone,

I am really excited to be back with another tag post today, as it feels like a long time since I last took part in one! Thank you so much to Emily for tagging me, her blog is wonderful and she writes beautifully and intelligently, so do take a look.

This looks like a really interesting tag, with a varied set of questions that made me think and also took me on a trip down memory lane. Let’s get straight on to it!

Last Book I Bought:

On my first trip back to a bookshop since they reopened in the UK after lockdown, I took the opportunity to purchase two books on my TBR. I am so excited to read both of them – Things In Jars seems like exactly my kind of book, while The Gilded Ones has caught my eye ever since it was released, aided by some glowing reviews.

Last Book I Re-Read:

I rarely reread books, but last month I decided to try out audiobooks for the first time and just to see what the experience would be like, I listened to a novel that I have already read (and indeed own) in a physical format. It was quite good in audio as it turned out, and I enjoyed experiencing the story again. Having read it originally back in April 2018, I was surprised by how much of it I remembered – perhaps it was because I connected with the story so powerfully at the time.

Last Book I Gave Up On:

I do not DNF books – sometimes to my regret!! However, I as good as gave up on this one less than halfway through. The writing style was so grating and lacking in substance that I was skim reading it long before the end.

Last Book I Said I Read But Didn’t:

I have done this once before and I promise that I will never do so ever again! It is ridiculous to say that you have read a book when in fact you have not, but back in 2017 there was a moment where I wanted to sound really knowledgeable about thrillers and The Girl Before was everywhere at the time. Not my finest hour…

Last Book I Wrote in the Margins Of:

Apart from in textbooks or poetry anthologies I read in school, I have never done this – certainly not for a physical book. But if it counts, I do make notes and highlights in e-books where I find something either interesting, meaningful, or worthy of observation.

Last Book That I Had Signed:

I own very few signed copies and also only began attending author events a couple of years ago, but in 2019 I met Stacey Halls at a talk and came away with a signed copy of her gorgeous book The Familiars. The cover and synopsis had already captured my attention, but I found her so lovely and genuine during the talk that I simply could not walk away without buying a copy afterwards.

Last Book I Lost:

I was reading this book in August 2019 and took it with me on a coach journey. And guess what? I left it on the coach. Of course, I bought a new copy immediately after I realised.

Last Book I Had to Replace:

To avoid using the same answer as for the previous question, I am going to follow Emily’s lead and take this prompt literally. I originally read Six Of Crows on my Kindle earlier this year, and recently I finally decided to get myself a physical copy.

Long overdue, but there are still several more books I either read on Kindle or borrowed from the library which I would like it physical form.

Last Book I Argued Over:

I really cannot think of a book I have argued about, certainly not at all recently. I always respect the fact that my opinion on a particular title will not be shared by everyone, and I like to avoid arguments anyway. :)

Last Book You Couldn’t Find:

This is actually my current read, and I have also been in the process of moving to my new flat. As such, all of my books had been boxed up and moved across in random piles. When I decided I wanted to read this book next, I had to rummage through them and failed to find it at the first time of asking, but it was second time lucky the next day!
