Five Books On My TBR – August 2021

Hello everyone,

I hope you are having a fantastic week so far. It was my birthday last week and in the process I acquired a handful of books, which lifted my physical unread pile to the 40 mark – or halfway up my bookcase depending on how you would like to measure it!

In honour of that, today’s post is about five of the books that I have recently added to my Goodreads TBR. I do not necessarily own them all, but they are among the many that I hope to get to over the coming months. In reality, there is every chance that I will still be saying that about one or two of these at the same time next year, but a guy can dream ;)

So without further ado, on to the list!

As Good As Dead by Holly Jackson

This one only came out recently, and it is the conclusion to one of my favourite series. I have loved not only the characters, but the mixed media format and most of all, the fiendish twists. The last book ended on an interesting note, so I am very excited to find out what the finale has in store!

Before I read this, I shall be reading the prequel. Kill Joy was released last year for World Book Day and I managed to happen across a copy in a charity shop last week, so that should be the perfect way to get in the mood.

The Ophelia Girls by Jane Healey

I have to hold my hands up and say that as soon as I walked into Waterstones and saw this book on display with the cover in all its gorgeous flowery glory, it was going straight on my TBR – only self control stopped me from buying it. Honestly though, isn’t it just beautiful?

But in case you are wondering, I have actually read the blurb and that makes me even more convinced that it will be a great read. It sounds emotional and thought-provoking, while you rarely go wrong with dual timelines.

Luck Of The Titanic by Stacey Lee

This book just seems so unique! I love the concept and the diversity, and knowing that it is set on the Titanic means that emotion and high stakes are both on the cards. I also have the feeling that the main character, Valora, will be very likeable and easy to root for, so there are many reasons to look forward to reading this.

Hostage by Clare Mackintosh

This is one of the books I received for my birthday. Clare Mackintosh is one of my absolute favourite authors – indeed it was her outstanding debut novel I Let You Go which introduced me to the thriller genre, so I always have high expectations when it comes to her work.

After a departure from the norm in her previous book, she is back to writing thrillers and this is her first one for over three years. It sounds claustrophobic and tense, so I shall definitely be picking this one up soon.

The Frequency Of Us by Keith Stuart

I first became aware of this book when my friend Gem read it earlier this year and loved it, and recently I have seen it frequently while browsing bookstores. There are dual timelines, which like I said before are always an intriguing bonus, while it is set in the city of Bath, so it is a local one for me!

Elsewhere, there is romance and a real sense of mystery, so I did not take much convincing to add this one to my TBR.
