As it edges worryingly towards the 250-mark, my Goodreads TBR is looking as unhealthy as ever, but is that not just normal for us readers?! All the same, my commitment to getting through that growing list of books remains unwavering.
Today I am sharing five more of my recent additions to the list. Some I aim to get to quite soon; others might sadly have to wait a little bit longer before being picked up. Away we go…
The Whistling by Rebecca Netley
I have seen several positive reviews of this one lately and it looks like the perfect type of book for this time of year! To be honest, I love anything that is complex, Gothic, and just a little bit spooky, so I am very confident I will enjoy this one when I read it.
The blurb ticks all the boxes. In 2021 I have surrounded myself with lots of haunting reads and this one, with its tantalising Scottish setting, is an ideal addition to the list.
The Hawthorne Legacy by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
This is the sequel to The Inheritance Games, a book that I really enjoyed when I read it last year. It was full of twists and intricate puzzles; just an all-round exciting ride. And after that startling cliffhanger, I am very much looking forward to finding out what happens next!
One of the things to look out for is what we will find out about the characters. All four of the Hawthorne brothers are enigmatic and I have the feeling that there is lots more to discover about them.
Dangerous Women by Hope Adams
I am buddy reading this one in December and cannot wait! Any novel containing strong female characters is likely to catch my eye and for that reason I was immediately struck by the title. The concept is intriguing too, with the promise of a suspenseful mystery taking place within a claustrophobic setting.
The fact that all the women involved in the women are convicts makes the mystery all the more appealing, and I am sure that it will keep me guessing throughout!
The Night She Disappeared by Lisa Jewell
Every new release by Lisa Jewell is a must-read, and this is no exception. Having read seven of her previous books, I know to expect a thriller that delivers excellent character development and an interesting, steadily paced plot.
From the blurb, I am excited to see how the missing person/cold case aspect plays out, and the dual timelines usually always guarantees something enthralling. As a massive fan of Jewell’s writing, I cannot wait to find out what she has put together here.
The Key In The Lock by Beth Underdown
I was recently lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book via Netgalley, and shall be buddy reading it in November. As well as the concept and the cover, I was drawn to it by the fact it has been compared to historical fiction novels by some of my absolute favourite authors.
Beth Underdown’s previous book The Witchfinder’s Sister has been on my TBR for a long time now, so if I love this, it will be the prompt I need to finally pick up that one!
