Five Books On My TBR – February 2022

Hello everyone,

This feels like the year where everyone is finally turning their reading priorities to their long-term TBR and taking part in #BeatTheBacklog. I am the same, although to be honest it is a terminally ongoing battle, especially as more books continue to be added to the list!

In this post I am taking a look at five of the books which I have added to my Goodreads TBR more recently. There is no exact timescale on reading them, but I hope to get there eventually, and there are some highly anticipated ones on this list too.

Pandora by Susan Stokes-Chapman

I was very lucky to get my hands on a signed copy of this one at the weekend, and I have just arranged to buddy read it at the beginning of March! The cover is absolutely gorgeous and I was particularly drawn to it by the synopsis, which seems to combine two of my favourite things in literature – a historical mystery and Greek mythology *insert heart eyes*.

It is fair to say that I am very intrigued by the multiple aspects that this book seems to contain. I cannot wait to pick it up!

These Deadly Games by Diana Urban

Having read Diana Urban’s debut young adult thriller All Your Twisted Secrets in late 2020, I know to expect something extremely intense and dramatic here. The concept once again appears to involve high stakes and moral dilemmas, with some shocking plot twists along the way.

That is the kind of thing I often look for in this genre and I have a feeling that once I get started it is going to be a very difficult book to put down. I am fully geared up for what will surely be an edge-of-the-seat ride.

Daughter Of The Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan

I really love reading diverse fantasy and although I have seen some mixed reviews, this one has the look of a completely enchanting read. The first in a duology, I am excited by the promise of lots of magic and Chinese mythology, which I have never really come across before in any of the books I have read.

It should be immersive and I expect to be transported to a beautiful fictional world by debut author Sue Lynn Tan. I must mention the cover too, which is a work of art; so detailed and atmospheric.

For The Wolf by Hannah Witten

I was convinced to add this one to my TBR after seeing several positive reviews from other book bloggers, and a closer look at the blurb suggests I might end up really enjoying it. In some ways a Little Red Riding Hood retelling, it seems full of atmosphere and suspense.

It has also been compared to The Bear And The Nightingale, which is the opening chapter of one of my favourite fantasy series, so I have high hopes for when I read it.

The Return by Anita Frank

This time last year I was absolutely loving Anita Frank’s debut novel The Lost Ones, and the quality of that one ensured I would automatically be adding her next book to my TBR. The writing style was delightful, along with a thrilling ghostly plot and a cast of fascinatingly complex characters, so I did not need much convincing.

By all accounts, this one is much different but I fully expect it to contain a lot of the same fundamental things that made The Lost Ones such a joy. It looks like an emotional read too.
