Hello everyone,
If you own a Kindle, there is fun little Easter egg hidden away in its depths. Highlight a single word, and the dictionary definition pops up, along with possible translations and a Wikipedia article where applicable.
Then, if you press the three dots at the top of the screen, a menu appears. Select the ‘Vocabulary Builder’ option and voila! You are taken to a list of all the words you have highlighted on your Kindle so you can revise them at your own leisure.
One of the beauties of reading is that you come across lots of words that you have never seen or heard of before. Some of them are quite random or obscure, and today I am sharing eight more of my own in what is my 10th Vocabulary Builder post.
Here is the list, with all the definitions coming from Oxford Dictionaries!
Word: Comfrey
Definition: A Eurasion plant of the borage family, which has large hairy leaves and clusters of purplish or white bell-shaped flowers.
Word: Hellion
Definition: A rowdy or mischievous person, especially a child.
Word: Puka
Definition: A small spiral shell typically strung with others to make necklaces or bracelets
Word: Sacristy
Definition: A room in a church where a priest prepares for a service, and where vestments and articles of worship are kept.
Word: Sclera
Definition: The white outer layer of the eyeball. At the front of the eye it is continuous with the cornea.
Word: Foment
Definition: To instigate or stir up – for example an undesirable or violent sentiment or course of action.
Word: Stertorous
Definition: Used to described breathing that is noisy and laboured.
Word: Puli
Definition: A sheepdog of a black, grey, or white breed with a long thick coat.
