End Of Year Book Tag

Hello everyone,

This is actually the first time I have ever done this tag! Although to a certain degree it seems only yesterday that 2022 began, the end of the year is looming and there are still a few more books that I would like to fit in before then.

The whole idea is to partly look back on my reading year so far, and ahead to the books I would like to finish before the year is out. This post will act as a kind of prelude to some of the posts I have in store over the coming weeks, so let us get started!

Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish?

Yes! I currently have three books that I am in the process of reading. I should finish The One Hundred Years Of Lenni And Margot in the next couple of days, and that has been a fantastic read – powerful but also uplifting.

It is also so far, so good with Foul Lady Fortune, and as always I am loving the intensity and depth of Chloe Gong’s writing. I am buddy reading this, so there is a chance that I may not finish it before the end of the year. As for Fracture, I have just begun reading it for a blog tour and so my review will be shared very soon.

Do you have an autumnal book to transition into the end of the year?

The seasons and the time of year are rarely a factor in the books I choose to read, but I did recently buddy read Threadneedle with the wonderful Pauliina @ The Bookaholic Dreamer. Full of atmosphere and witchcraft, this certainly did have autumnal vibes.

Is there a new release that you’re still waiting for?

Unlike many other book bloggers, I am terrible at keeping up with forthcoming new releases. Most of the new releases I am looking ahead to are in early 2023, while a few books that I am very excited for were released in November, such as Heart Of The Sun Warrior by Sue Lynn Tan and Five Survive by Holly Jackson.

What are three books you want to read before the year ends?

I am planning to start The Haunting Season this weekend in another buddy read with Pauliina. This short story collection has contributions from some of my favourite authors of historical and Gothic fiction, so I am excited to build towards Christmas with this one.

I also have Cunning Women from the library, and if I have a few days to spare at the end of the year, I shall pick up Not A Happy Family, which will surely be a quick read.

Is there a book that you think could still shock you and become your favourite of the year?

I will be very surprised if any book manages to usurp Daughter Of The Moon Goddess as my favourite book of the year, but it is no secret how much I love the world Chloe Gong has created, so I would not 100% rule out Foul Lady Fortune just yet!

Have you already started to make reading plans for 2023?

Not really, although I do have a few upcoming reads in mind. It will begin with setting a new reading target, but I cannot see much changing from 2022 as I still have a TBR to get through! I suppose the main aim is to continue tackling that backlog, catch up on a few series that I am behind on, and keep my reading diverse.
