Five Books On My TBR – November 2023

Hello everyone,

I have not done a TBR post for months, so I figured it was about time! During that surprising hiatus, I have added a lot more books to my to-read list, and today I am sharing five of them.

Juniper And Thorn by Ava Reid

Ava Reid is an author whose books are very high on my priority list. Her latest release A Study In Drowning looks amazing but I would like to read one first. It seems to be full of magic and mystery, which is a combination I usually love. The blurb does not give too much away either, which makes it all the more intriguing.

Murder In The Family by Cara Hunter

This is Cara Hunter’s first book which is not part of the fantastic DI Adam Fawley series, but it is inspired by an item featured in one of those books. It focuses on a fictional cold case with a documentary format, and if the transcript we saw in Hope To Die is anything to go by, then this will be almost unputdownable.

I expect this to gripping and unpredictable, with plenty of twists!

The Very Secret Society Of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna

A quick glance at this list will tell you very clearly that I love books about or containing witchcraft. This one is more of the whimsical variety, and I have heard so many things about it.

There are comparisons to The House In The Cerulean Sea, so I am definitely here for this book and I expect to be enthralled by it. The cover is even quite similar in a way, with a car on a winding path leading to a house on a hilltop.

The Burnings by Naomi Kelsey

See what I mean about witchcraft?! This is much different, as it looks to be about witch trials and the punishments meted out to those accused of wielding ungodly powers. I have read books like this in the past, and almost always been bewitched by them, if you would excuse the pun.

Naomi Kelsey’s highly acclaimed debut has an intriguing Scottish setting and contains some very high stakes, so I am looking forward to seeing her take on this subject matter.

Belladonna by Adalyn Grace

This book has received so many positive reviews, and just one look at the blurb suggests it has everything you could possibly look for in a good story. It seems to encompass a number of genres and contain an extremely compelling main character.

And a note on the cover – this is beautiful too! This is on my Christmas shortlist, so hopefully I might get my hands on it soon.
