Hello everyone,
Just like any other read, I love a beautiful cover. Some are so stunning that they persuade you to buy a book right there and then, regardless of the contents! Of course, it is much more worth it when they turn out to be stories we really enjoy.
A handful of especially pretty books have been added to my collection in 2023, and in this post I am going to look back upon them. It is hard to pick a favourite…

I Am Dust by Louise Beech
I love the atmosphere that this cover manages to convey. It is story about a haunted theatre and a group of characters communicating with the dead, and with the image of a spectral woman in a wispy dress upon a dark background, it creates an arresting image.

Heart Of The Sun Warrior by Sue Lynn Tan
This cover is so intricate and detailed. All the colours are a visual feast, while the fantastical creatures and wild plants really stand out and shine with their uniqueness. There is so much to discover in Sue Lynn Tan’s myth inspired world, and that is clear from just seeing the cover. The central motif of the rising sun is a nice touch too, as it is the opposite to the moon being on the cover of Daughter Of The Moon Goddess.

Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia Of Faeries by Heather Fawcett
I am not going to lie, this was something of a cover buy after seeing it all over Instagram at the start of the year. In many ways, the book is exactly what it says on the cover, with the title explaining what the story is about, and the cover art perfectly depicting the type of setting you will find inside. It is very pretty too, with the open book seemingly containing magic and the plants adding to that sense of enchantment.

Blackberry & Wild Rose by Sonia Velton
I adore books with flowers on the cover, and this is no exception. What really clinches it for me is how the different colours intertwine with and compliment the typeface, with its clear, serif font. It also reflects the atmosphere of the story really well.

The Winter Spirits
I am still reading this spooky festive short story collection, and the cover is one that I just cannot stop admiring. From the elaborate hanging lamp to the tendrils of holly, it is visually very beautiful and one that gets you in the mood for a haunting Gothic read perfect for dark winter nights!
