End Of Year Book Tag 2024

Hello everyone,

It may be hard to believe, but the end of 2024 is in sight and so that means it is time to begin my annual wrap-up posts, starting with the End of Year Book Tag.

Here we have some fun prompts and a little look ahead at my TBR for the remaining days of this year, which has been eventful both personally and in terms of world events, but equally seems to have disappeared in the blink of an eye. Let us get started!

Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish?

I am currently reading Foxglove and not too far away from reaching the end. The sequel to Belladonna, it is a fun and mysterious and delightfully Gothic read. As for Us In Ruins, I made a start but ended up putting it down and will probably finish it sometime in 2025.

Do you have an autumnal book to transition into the end of the year?

Well, Foxglove certainly feels fairly autumnal as Belladonna did before that. None of the other books I have read lately really fit this description!

Is there a new release that you’re still waiting for?

Yes! One of my most eagerly awaited upcoming releases is Famous Last Words by Gillian McAllister. I have read all her books so far and so once this is published in early 2025 it will not take long for me to pick it up. There are probably lots of other books coming soon that I am not aware of yet, too!

What are three books you want to read before the year ends?

I am planning to buddy read The Birdcage Library once I have finished Foxglove. It looks right up my street and has a wonderfully intriguing blurb.

While I am not always in the habit of reading Booker Prize winners, I am rather drawn to Orbital and I must admit that, having been lent a copy, it’s low page count seems like a good opportunity for a quick win.

As for The Brothers Hawthorne, it is about time I read that as it is coming close to two years since I finished the Inheritance Games trilogy.

Is there a book that you think could still shock you and become your favourite of the year?

It sounds pessimistic, but I really do not think so! That is mostly because I have read some incredible books this year that I feel are unlikely to be topped by the ones I have lined up.

Have you already started to make reading plans for 2025?

I am somebody who lives very much in the present, so the truth is not really! But I do know that I must get through more of the books on my to read pile (easier said than done), prioritise reading a little more than procrastinating, and use my Kindle more often. I have barely read anything on there this year – 2024 has been a year for physical books!

Oh, and I also need a new bookcase as my current one is overflowing.
