Hello everyone,
The next stop on my look back over my reading in 2022 is to look at all the books I have read on my Kindle and the best quotes I have picked out.
One of the many useful features of a Kindle is the ability to highlight words and passages. It can be a particular quote that carries a lot of meaning or simply resonates with you, else it could be something fun or inspiring!
All of the highlighted quotes are saved to Goodreads and your Kindle library, to look at again whenever you like.
In previous years I have usually split this into two posts, but this year I have not highlighted quite as many passages, so it will just be the one post. So here they are, including a few that were words spoken by particular characters.
Imagine how completely different life would be if everyone’s thoughts were transparent. It would help people like me to navigate the world of social interaction, but I guess there’d be a lot of disadvantages too. We’d all have to develop very thick skins to avoid being hurt by negative thoughts.
We Watch You by NS Ford
There was a danger in helping those whose words could travel, be heard, and be acted upon.
The Girl Of Dorcha Wood by Kristin Ward
I feel as though the world I knew was but a veil covering what lies within it.
Blood Of The Lost Kingdom by Kristin Ward
“If you believe that, then you have never seen war. It is an ugly, brutal thing that cares nothing for fathers and sons. wives and daughters. It is merciless, and so must we be in the face of it.”
Blood Of The Lost Kingdom by Kristin Ward
My life is a series of “ifs” gone wrong
I Know You Did It by Sue Wallman
For the first time, it occurs to him that Dash was just one man among thousands who were killed in the war, their slaughter legitimised by the simple equation of where a man was born.
Circus Of Wonders by Elizabeth Macneal
Sometimes one person’s hero is another person’s monster, or in my case, father.
Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas
“It’s kinda like how we have to do with ourselves. Get rid of things that don’t do us any good. If it won’t help the rose grow, you’ve gotta let it go.”
Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas
It’s a strange coincidence and nothing more, even if it feels as if some dark, twisted magic is at work – but isn’t that what coincidences are, really?
The Cottingley Cuckoo by A.J. Elwood
“You see, people often ascribe traits to students. For example, if a teenager writes a story in English class about a murderer, or in art draws people being decapitated, it suggests that they’re disturbed, somehow; or that they’ll actually go and kill someone. I don’t buy it, though. What these people fail to point out is that ALL teenagers are morbid. All of them.”
Six Stories by Matt Wesolowski
“Something like depression – people always want a root cause, as if your illness has to be quantified, like it can’t be enough that your brain chemistry is skew-whiff, I don’t know.”
Hydra by Matt Wesolowski
“If you find you are in need of a name at any point, you may choose one for yourself. For now it will not be necessary.”
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
“The past stays on you the way powdered sugar stays on your fingers. Some people can get rid of it but it’s still there, the events and things that pushed you to where you are now.”
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
October slips into November, a change that goes largely unnoticed other than by those standing closest to the clock.
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
“Good and evil are a great deal more complex than a princess and a dragon, or a wolf and a scarlet clad little girl. And is it not the dragon the hero of his own story? Is not the wolf simply acting as a wolf should act? Though perhaps it is a singular wolf who goes to such length as to dress as a grandmother to toy with its prey”
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
I would love to know your thoughts on some of these quotes! Did any of them stand out for you? Did you come across any memorable ones in 2022? Let me know in the comments!
Happy reading 🙂
