Hello everyone,
Who does not like a beautiful book cover? Sometimes they are one of the reasons why we decide to buy a particular book, but it is even better when they turn out to be a great read.
My favourite covers are often ones with intricate patterns and attention to detail, while I also love a splash of colour. That is one of the reasons why I am drawn to a lot of historical fiction covers. This year however, my top five come from a wider range of genres, which makes for a nice change!
So here we are, my favourite covers out of the physical books I read in 2022.

Ariadne by Jennifer Saint
Not only is this one of my favourite reads of the year, the cover is positively gorgeous too! Every detail of this wonderful hardcover edition is perfect, echoing the myth depicted in the story by showing Ariadne surrounded by the leaves and grapes on the island of Dionysus. It is also a delightful shade of blue.

The Gilded Ones by Namina Forna
What I like most about this cover is that it is so vivid. Everything about it stands out to make a compelling image, from the turquoise background to the bold typography, to the brilliantly realised portrait of the main character Deka in the centre. As for the book itself, I really enjoyed it!

Daughter Of The Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan
My favourite book of the year also has one of the best covers! To be honest, all of the artwork and every edition associated with this duology are stunningly designed with every last detail captured with great clarity, and Sue Lynn Tan writes in the same manner. As for this particular edition, I love all the colours; how the title is superimposed on to the sphere of the moon; the flowers and the magic. I love it.

Pandora by Susan Stokes-Chapman
For me, what makes this cover so eye-catching is the inclusion of the magpie, perched so aptly upon the title. Without it, there would be something missing. All the other details are great too, though, such as the filigree pattern in the background and the elaborate gold wisps. It definitely stands out on my bookcase.

The Haunting Season
I have just started reading this short story collection and as soon as I saw the cover, I knew I had to get myself a physical copy – mine came with sprayed edges which is even better. Written by several authors – many of whose work I have read and enjoyed, I like the colours and the pattern of the leaves, which give it a decidedly wintry feel.
